Efficacy of Uttarbasti and Matrabasti in the Management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: A Case Study
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is the most prevalent condition in older men. BPH is brought on by excessive prostatic tissue growth near the bladder neck. The prevalence of BPH is at least 50% for all males 40 years of age and older, demonstrating the disease's susceptibility near the end of life. BPH results in symptoms like difficulty urinating, urgency, frequency, and intermittency. Uttarbasti and Matrabasti were designed for urinary tract disorders.
Case Information: A 69-year-old male patient with complaints of dribbling and burning micturition, increased frequency and urgency micturition, nocturia, and hesitancy.
Therapeutic Intervention: Chandanabalalākṣādi taila for Uttarbasti was given through the urethra, 30 ml once daily for 7 days. Then, 7 days of rest were given. Followed by Jatyādi taila for Matrābasti was given through the rectum, 30 ml once daily for 15 days. The patient was assessed based on the International Prostate System Score (IPSS) and the objective parameter size of the prostate and post-voidal residual urine.
Results: Significant relief was observed in dribbling and burning micturition. Increased frequency, nocturia, incomplete voiding were relieved completely in this patient. The size of the prostate and post-voidal residual urine volume were decreased. The IPSS score of the patient also improved. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia can be managed with Uttarbasti with Chandanabalālakṣādi taila and Matrābasti with Jatyādi taila.
Conclusion: After completion of treatment, the size of the prostate was reduced, and the signs and symptoms of prostate were also reduced.
